O que naufraga

(...) o que é que vão fazer? Já sei que a resposta vai ser "lutar contra as máfias do tráfico de pessoas", que vivem à custa da exploração daquela pobre gente, com travessias de imenso risco. 

Até aí estamos todos de acordo. E depois? Está a Europa disponível para acolher no seu solo os muitos milhares de africanos que chegam às costas da Líbia (onde hoje não há Estado)? E quantos? E como os distribui? Ou será que se está apenas a aproveitar esta indignação para, através do pretexto da luta contra as máfias, tentar, afinal, evitar que os africanos entrem no continente europeu? Será que a Europa está disponível para dar uma solução de vida a essa gente? Ou será que apenas pretende um modelo como aquele que existe em Ceuta, com centenas de pessoas penduradas nas redes de metal que encerram a primeira praça da nossa expansão? Não será isso, lá no fundo, o "sonho" europeu?

A Europa tem de ter a coragem de dizer, alto e bom som, sem eufemismos, que não tem condições para receber milhares de cidadãos oriundos de Estados africanos (e outros) que se revelam incapazes de dar condições de vida decentes a essas pessoas. E tem de ter a frontalidade de dizer que, apesar dessa gente passar por lá fome, violência e imensas provações, não está disposta a abrir-lhes as suas portas. Mas tem de assumir isto, caramba! Andar com discursos piedosos a "fingir que faz" é de uma imensa hipocrisia política. 

O que a Europa podia fazer, e não faz, é promover políticas decentes e eficazes de cooperação para o desenvolvimento nos Estados emissores de emigrantes, que fossem estímulos para a fixação das populações. Basta consultar as conclusões das cimeiras entre a UE e os países africanos para se ter um completo e bem elaborado catálogo do que neles se proclamou, assinou e não se cumpriu.

Tuesday (April 14, 2015) marked "another tragic day":http://www.euronews.com/2015/04/13/fr... off the coast of Italy. Migrants arriving in the port of Reggio Calabria, at Italy's southern tip, told the charity "Save the Children":https://www.savethechildren.net/ that some 400 people died when their boat capsized en route from Libya. Italy: Hundreds of migrants still missing off Lampedusa after latest boat tragedy

Dozens of bodies have been recovered from the Mediterranean Sea and brought ashore on Lampedusa after one of the worst tragedies involving African migrants trying to reach Europe. The mayor described the scenes on the quayside as "horrific, like a cemetery". Hundreds of people are missing after their boat sank about a kilometre from the Italian island. It is thought the boat capsized after migrants poured to one side of the vessel to escape a fire on board.

Lampedusa: Way to Paradise or Hell for African migrants? 

As the turmoil of revolutions brought economic instability to many African countries, their citizens began to look across the sea, to Europe, for a chance to improve their lives. The Italian island of Lampedusa is often seen as “a gateway” to the EU paradise. Getting there, though, can be sheer hell. The journey is hard to arrange: it’s costly and travelers are at the mercy of boatmen, often unscrupulous traffickers. The waters are treacherous and have already claimed hundreds of lives. The authorities are determined to intercept would-be illegal immigrants before they can reach the EU border. Yet, in spite of all the hardship and danger, desperate African men and women continue to take their chances. Those who survive and reach the island for which they risked their lives, soon discover that, without papers or knowing the language, the future in a foreign country may be even more uncertain than in their own.

Quem tem responsabilidades, directas ou indirectas, no estado insustentavelmente caótico a que chegaram os países de onde foge esta gente, gente como nós, que faça alguma coisa. E mesmo os que não têm qualquer responsabilidade que se unam para ajudar aqueles países de origem a ser um lugar bom para se viver, Não é humanamente suportável que se permita que tantos milhares de sonhos se afoguem no inferno da fronteira para o paraíso imaginado.
