Uma mente elástica - ou a virtuosa ligação entre o Design e a Ciência (e, já agora, a Arte)

Acredito que a elegância está em quase tudo o que importa e que, se não é elegante (e simples), provavelmente ficará pelo caminho no infinito devir do tempo.

Se penso em arquitectura, música, pintura, matemática, literatura, biologia, fotografia ou seja no que for (incluindo em decoração) ocorre-me que o que verdadeiramente nos emociona e que prevalece na memória, seja na individual seja na colectiva, é o que tem uma estética própria, uma beleza intrínseca.

Talvez nisto estejam presentes conceitos como os da simplicidade, simetria, harmonia, reprodutibilidade.

Mas digo talvez. De facto, não sei.

Esta tarde, estive a ler Science is Culture - Conversations at the New Intersection of Science + Society, editado por Adam Bly que é o fundador da Seed.

Uma das conversas que gostei de ler foi a que ocorreu entre a italiana Paola Antonelli e Benoit Mandelbrot, o matemático de quem já aqui falei, nomeadamente quando me referi aos fractais.

Não vou aqui transcrever a conversa que é extensa mas, porque me é cara a ideia de termos as diversas áreas do saber a intersectarem-se ou a influenciarem-se ou, ainda, a potenciarem mutuamente a evolução no caminho do conhecimento, vou deixar-vos com uns vídeos que considero interessantes e inspiradores.

Mas permitam que, primeiro, transcreva um breve excerto da apresentação de Paola Antonelli.

Paola Antonelli (born 1963 in Sassari, Sardinia, Italy) is an Italian author, editor, and curator. She is of Lombard ancestry. She is currently the Senior Curator of the Department of Architecture & Design as well as the Director of R&D at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York City.

Antonelli was recognized with an AIGA Medal in 2015 for "expanding the influence of design in everyday life by sharing fresh and incisive observations and curating provocative exhibitions at MoMA" She was rated one of the one hundred most powerful people in the world of art by Art Review and Surface Magazine.
